Technology terms & practical skills

What it means

Cloud storage keeps files on systems operated by a service provider and makes them available through a network. Some apps also keep local copies. Synchronization keeps selected locations aligned, but may also copy a deletion or unwanted change.

Related skills

Locate filesDistinguish a downloaded copy from a file available only online.

Control sharingCheck who can view or edit each shared folder.

Test accessConfirm that an important file opens on the device where you need it.

An everyday example

Before traveling without reliable internet, download a copy of an essential document and test it while offline. Keep track of which copy you will edit so that changes are not lost between versions.

What to check

Check storage limits and account recovery. A synchronized folder alone may not provide a separately recoverable backup.
