Scale or institutional role

Public institutional roles: BlackRock chair and CEO; World Economic Forum co-chair

Period: Roles documented in September–October 2026

Institutional responsibility, not a personal-wealth ranking [1]

Why he is included

The World Economic Forum’s 2025–2026 governance report names Laurence D. Fink as a co-chair and identifies him as BlackRock’s chair and chief executive. Those positions connect investment management with a forum for international policy discussion. They establish identifiable offices, not unlimited authority over either governments or every company held in a managed fund. [1]

Money, ownership & supply-chain connections

BlackRock manages investments for clients. The assets managed by the firm should not be counted as Fink’s personal wealth or as corporate cash available for any purpose. His institutional influence can be examined through investment stewardship, client mandates and the firm’s infrastructure and capital-market activities; the companion BlackRock page explains the relevant size measure.

Public policy and advocacy

Fink’s 2026 investor letter discusses expanding long-term investment participation and the concentration of economic gains among asset owners. It also describes countries investing more at home as international economic arrangements change. This is a published argument about capital markets, not evidence that every investment institution supports an identical program. [2]

Scrutiny, competing interests & limits

Useful accountability questions concern voting authority over client investments, conflicts between commercial and policy roles, and access to decision-makers. The WEF describes its role as convening dialogue among business, government and other participants. A meeting or co-chair title does not itself establish that a law, grant or corporate decision was directed by that forum. Evaluate each claimed decision using its own record. [3]
