Trade / Apprenticeship

Separate paid apprenticeship routes from programs that charge tuition for trade training.

1 — Check how entry works

Find out whether you apply through an employer, union, apprenticeship sponsor or training program, and what age, education, testing or physical requirements apply.

2 — Compare earn-while-learning

Ask when wages begin, how raises progress, how classroom hours are handled and who pays for tools, instruction, exams and required credentials.

3 — Verify the destination

Confirm the credential or journey-level status earned, how portable it is, and what work becomes available after completion.

If the pathway is interrupted:
  • Required work hours, classroom progress or exams may affect how quickly you advance.
  • Changing employers or locations can affect whether completed hours or training carry forward.
  • Tools, transportation or licensing costs can become larger than expected.
Find out how completed hours and credentials are documented before a change becomes necessary.
