2025: Block Everything & organized strikes
The loosely coordinated Bloquons Tout (“Block Everything”) mobilization emerged online in 2025 against planned budget reductions and political leadership. Reuters reported road obstructions, burning barricades and intermittent clashes on 10 September. The movement drew participants from different political tendencies, making it misleading to describe it as a centrally directed campaign by one party.
President Macron appointed Sébastien Lecornu after François Bayrou lost a confidence vote over his fiscal proposals. On 18 September, established unions mounted a separate large strike day. Teachers, transport workers, pharmacists and hospital employees were among the participating occupations, and CGT leader Sophie Binet publicly argued against the proposed austerity course.
The groups should not be collapsed into one category. Unions publicly called industrial action; online networks encouraged decentralized disruption; police documented arrests and roadblocks. Public reporting does not establish a common financial sponsor or a single command responsible for every damaged property.
