Consumer Goods, Products & Protections
Before you buy
Compare the full cost, useful features, expected life, repairability and return policy—not only the advertised price.
Warranties, returns & refunds
Keep receipts and order records. Check what the seller promises, what the manufacturer warranty covers, time limits, exclusions and who pays shipping or repair costs.
Safety & recalls
A recall can mean a product has a safety defect or other serious problem. Stop using a product when official recall instructions say to do so, and follow the remedy offered by the manufacturer or responsible agency.
Misleading claims & scams
Be cautious with pressure to act immediately, hidden recurring charges, prices that change late in checkout, imitation sellers and claims that cannot be independently checked.
When something goes wrong
Start with the seller or manufacturer and keep a written record. Consumer-protection agencies and regulators may provide complaint or recall information when the problem cannot be resolved directly.
